TRUSTEE | PLACE 2 | TERM EXPIRES: 2029
McKinney, Texas - After stepping away for a few years, Kenneth Ussery has returned for a second term on the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees. His service on the board is the natural progression of a decades long commitment to MISD.
As a fifth-generation resident of McKinney, Ussery’s involvement with the district has taken on a variety of forms, dating to the early 1980’s, when he began providing piano accompaniment for MISD band, choir and orchestra students at their local, regional and state competitions. As the district grew, Ussery’s participation expanded as well, and over the years, he has accompanied the music students at all three MISD high schools, all five middle schools and some of the district’s elementary school choirs.
Beyond fine arts, Ussery has served on the MISD Community Action Network, Strategic Planning Team (to open McClure Elementary), Long Range Planning Team and District-Wide Strategic Planning Team.
He co-chaired the 2016 Bond Committee, served as the McKinney Boyd High School Band Booster Treasurer and President and served in Place 2 on the MISD Board of Trustees. There was even a time when Ussery could be found in classrooms at Dowell Middle School and Cockrill Middle School as a math tutor and at other campuses as a substitute teacher.
Ussery and his wife Teri have five children and five grandchildren who have granted them their most cherished and rewarding titles—Pop and Gigi. You will find Ussery in his office in downtown McKinney where he works as a REMAX Realtor and Certified Life Coach. He recently graduated Leadership McKinney, Class of 2025—“greatest class ever.”
“As a member of the MISD Board of Trustees,” said Ussery, “my desire is to be a strong advocate for our students, promoting quality academics in a safe and effective learning environment where every student, every day can prosper.”
Ussery holds a BBA in Accounting from East Texas State University and an MBA in Psychology from Mary Hardin Baylor, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.
