Communication During an Emergency
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. In the event of an emergency, McKinney ISD follows a coordinated communication plan to provide accurate and timely information to families, staff, and the community.
Immediate Notifications
When an emergency occurs, McKinney ISD will use multiple channels to share verified information as quickly as possible. Parents and staff will receive alerts through:
Phone calls, text messages, and email notifications via the district’s mass communication system
District and campus websites,
Official MISD social media accounts: McKinney ISD Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram
Types of Updates
Initial Notification: Confirms that the district is aware of the situation and that safety protocols are in place.
Follow-Up Updates: Provide new information as it becomes available from school or emergency personnel.
All Clear: Communicates when the situation has been resolved and normal operations have resumed.
Please note that our goal is to communicate as quickly as possible and as accurately as possible. Every situation is unique and will need to be assessed.
Accuracy and Coordination
The best practice and MISD policy, require that the immediate priority is ensuring student and staff safety, assessing and addressing the situation, and then issuing communication once accurate information is available.
All emergency communications are developed in partnership with local law enforcement and first responders to ensure information is accurate and consistent. MISD will only share confirmed details to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Parent and Community Role
We ask parents and community members to rely only on official district communication channels and to avoid coming to campus during an active emergency unless instructed to do so.
