Events Sponsored By Outside Organizations

McKinney ISD does not sponsor, endorse, or assume any responsibility for this event/program. To request accommodations for individuals with disabilities, please contact the sponsoring organization. For general questions or concerns related to the use of facilities by non-district organizations, please contact the campus principal.

Listing An Item on the Community Folder

As a service to McKinney ISD students and families the district provides the Community Folder for school related, non-school related and non-profit organizations. Electronic communication has become standard and is preferred by many parents; the schools are sharing more and more information via email as a convenience to parents and cuts back on paper. Information posted and accepted must be youth-oriented, and will be reviewed and approved by the Communications Department. Updates will be posted often, so we ask that you check back for the latest opportunities and information from our community.

Non-profit groups will be allowed to post information at no cost. For-profit groups will be asked to make a $250 donation for the year in exchange for the opportunity to post one flyer on the website and have the flyer linked in one parent and staff newsletter. All flyers expire at the end of each school year. Approval of flyers may take up to three to four business days.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star Greater Dallas

Community-Based Program

In this one-to-one mentoring program, your child will enjoy 2-4 outings a month (dependent on schedules. These outings can range from going out to eat, college visits, gaming events, or anything else that interests both the big and little. We also provide monthly outings that the match can sign up for, if interested. And best of all, there is not cost to the family.!

To enroll: A parent/guardian must complete one application per child online and agree to at least a one-year commitment.

Age requirements: We start taking applications at age 6 and can take applications for boys until 16, and girls until 17. If they are accepted into the program

How do we pair matches? We pair our matches based on similarities, personality & proximity. Since the mentor picks up the child from their home, we try to pair them with someone who lives close to them

If the application is approved: A BBBS staff member will interview the child & Parent/Guardian to help us get to know them better and find the best match.

How safe is it? After completing the application, our mentors will get a background check, we will check their references and they will get trainings. They will also be interviewed before even being accepted as a mentor.

Communication is Key: We ask that parents/guardians communicate with children, the mentor, and their match support specialist, to ensure that the match is safe and successful.

What is a Match Support Specialist? A MSS is a BBBS staff member who will monitor the progress of the child's match, to ensure that the match is safe, successful, and that everyone's needs are being met.
