Scholastic Aptitude Test -SAT

House Bill 3 (HB 3) represents the new school finance bill that was passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019. As part of this new legislation, funding formulas now include a reimbursement to districts to offer one free college preparation exam per student before he or she graduates in efforts to improve college, career, and/or military readiness.

On March 4, 2026, all MISD 11th graders will be administered at no cost the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT, during their normal school day. The SAT is an assessment managed by the College Board that has been used as a college admissions test for nearly a century. The SAT measures literacy and writing skills and assesses how well a student analyzes and solves problems.

TSIA (Texas Success Initiative Assessment)

The TSIA2 (Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0) is a state-required test that helps determine whether students are ready for college-level coursework in reading, writing, and math. Many students take the TSIA2 if they are planning to enroll in dual credit courses or want to demonstrate college readiness before graduation. In McKinney ISD, several campuses serve as approved testing sites, making it convenient for students to complete the assessment in a familiar setting during the school day or scheduled testing times. If a student does not meet the college-ready standard on the first attempt, the test also provides diagnostic information and opportunities for retesting after additional support. All secondary students have access to a free, self-paced TSIA prep course. Families who have questions about eligibility, testing dates, or preparation resources are encouraged to contact their campus counselor, who can provide guidance tailored to each student’s goals and help connect them with next steps.
