MISD Leadership Pathways

These pathways were created to foster the development of teachers, counselors, coaches, and leaders across the district.

Leadership Academy

Target Participants: MISD Staff Members who are interested in leadership growth.

Purpose: To identify, recruit, and equip MISD teachers with skills and experiences that prepare them for school leadership positions at any level.

Outcome: Each year we select approximately 25 educators who are focused on learning and growing. At least 75 % of these participants will soon move into a leadership position.

Application Process: Applications available in April, notifications are made in May.

Aspiring Assistant Principals

Target Participants: We would like all participants to have attended MISD Leadership Academy prior to this opportunity.

Purpose: To provide learning and growth for those seeking to be an assistant principal in McKinney ISD.

Outcome: MISD aims to develop strong emerging leaders by equipping them with the skills, insights, and network needed to thrive as campus administrators, ensuring the district has effective leadership in every school.

Application Process: Applications are posted in November.

Head Coaches Academy

Target Participants: MISD 2nd year coaches who are interested in becoming a head coach or MS Coordinator.

Purpose: This program supports the retention of our current coaches and provides direct opportunities for us to lead them and foster growth for promotions.

Outcome: This program has ignited excitement in our coaches. This academy is offered by invitation only. It is a highly selective process that ensures the understanding that great coaches are great teachers.

Counselor Interns

Target Participants: Graduate students in counseling programs that are currently in practicum courses.

Purpose: To provide opportunities for counseling graduate students to experience comprehensive school counseling program design and implementation.

Outcome: To provide and opportunity to develop future school counselors while helping campuses deliver comprehensive school counseling services.

Application Process: Contact Errin French for application and placement services.

NASOT Coaching Academy

Target Participants: Teachers who have an interest in serving as leaders on their campuses and in the district. Participants must be committed coaching teachers and providing professional development.

Purpose: The academy is designed for teacher leaders who are invested in the New Art and Science of Teaching practices and seek to offer their leadership.

Outcome: This leadership opportunity will promote those teacher leaders as they work with others and lead MISD instructional initiatives.

Para to Teacher Pathway

Target Participants: Current paraprofessionals who want to pursue teaching certificates. This program would provide training and support.

Purpose: To provide opportunities for our exceptional paraprofessionals to see a pathway to teacher certification.

Outcome: This program will allow MISD to train and support outstanding paraprofessionals within our district to become great teachers, while maintaining their current position.

Individual Professional Learning

Target Participants: All first year teachers and experienced teachers interested in developing a personalized professional learning plan to be completed through the Avanti Learning platform.

Purpose: Teachers will develop a more personal path for professional learning through our online platform.

Outcome: This leadership strand will allow teachers to pursue learning that is more meaningful to their personal and professional goals.
