Let’s make this Library Month one to remember!

This week in Kindergarten, we've been diving into an exciting STEAM lesson with LEGO Education, introducing the fundamentals of coding. Our students are learning to program their trains using "action bricks" to perform various tasks.
We started by asking the students if they've ever taken a train, subway, or tram and where they went. Then, we played the choo choo train game, where students lined up, put their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them, and moved around the classroom like a train, stopping when we said "red light."
Next, we explored building models using printable model cards or the LEGO® Education Coding Express set. Students worked together to build a double-ended track, starting at the train station and using a LEGO® DUPLO® figure as a passenger. They helped the passenger get to the harbor by programming the train to stop using red action bricks.
We explained the different ways to stop the train and discussed the function of red action bricks. Students built longer tracks and created more stops, using green action bricks to see how the train reacted.
Throughout the lesson, we evaluated students' progress by observing their collaborative efforts, algorithm creation, and use of action bricks to complete tasks. This hands-on experience has been a fantastic way for our students to learn coding fundamentals while having fun!
What a week of learning and discovery!

2nd Grade Learning in Action
This week in 2nd grade, they are’ diving into exciting topics! First, they explored the fascinating world of animal behaviors and structures! The students are learning how animals' behaviors and body structures help them survive and thrive in their environments. They’ve been investigating how animals adapt in unique ways to their habitats!
Next, it’s time for some math fun! They’ve been practicing multiplication by using arrays to better understand how numbers fit together. Students are building their arrays by grouping objects and visualizing how multiplication works—making it easier and more fun to learn!
This combination of science and math is keeping our students engaged and excited to learn! Keep up the great work, 2nd graders!

First Grade is Crushing the ST Math Puzzles!
They’re leading the lower grades with the most puzzles completed and showing no signs of slowing down! To keep the momentum going, they got a special visit from Jiji to help motivate them and keep that lead strong! Keep it up, First Grade!

Heads up, Colts! The STAAR test will be taking place on the following dates.:
April 10 Reading 3rd -5th
April 17 Science 5th grade
April 22 Math 3rd -5th
In order to give our students the best environment for success, the campus will be closed to visitors during these days. Let's keep the focus strong and make sure our Colts can do their absolute best!
We appreciate your understanding and support. Let’s show them what we’re made of!

PACK WEEK
McKinney ISD Health Services will be participating in our annual healthy eating initiative called PACK (Pack Assorted Colors for Kids) during the week of April 7th through April 11th.
The focus of PACK Week is to eat a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, as each has its own nutritional benefit. Each day during PACK week has been assigned a different color, and we are asking you to help your child eat the color of the food for that day. All forms count: fresh food, dried food, canned food, or even 100% juice! It’s easy to eat more fruits and vegetables each day.
Don't have that color of food? NO problem! Here are some other ways to participate:
• Look a food up on the internet and discuss its benefits, texture and taste.
• Draw or color a picture of the food.
• Check out the PACK WEEK website for fun activity pages here.
• Wear the color for the day!
