Secondary Newcomers Summer Enrichment Program
The Secondary Newcomer Summer Enrichment Program targets new English as a Second Language Students arriving to McKinney ISD from numerous backgrounds and countries.  The new students may know little English, and understand few, if any, of the classroom norms that other students take for granted. The MISD Secondary Newcomer Summer Enrichment Program aims to ease this transition by teaching students basic English and introducing them to school structure in a gradual, supportive way over the summer before classes begin. Students focus on academic vocabulary and language acquisition, Mathematics, and Technology throughout the day with content area teachers.  The Title III program, however, serves as much more than that: it warmly welcomes the young students into their new country, gives them chances to make new friends, and connects them with adult mentors who truly care about their success.  This program services students by invitation only.

Middle School Tuition-Based Academic and Enrichment Camps

Rising 7th Graders Duke Tip Camp
The MISD Duke TIP Camp Prep will prepare your 7th grader for taking the SAT or ACT. The strategies and thinking skills developed during this amazing camp will definitely develop a strong academic foundation your 7th grader. Students will receive either the ACT or the SAT Official Study Guide with CD, Knowsys Study Guide and MISD teacher prepared support.  They will take the SAT or ACT during the camp to further build their confidence during the December or January test administration.

The largest program of its kind, participants in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search identify academic strengths, develop abilities and interests, and celebrate their achievements at a crucial time when they are forming their identities and looking ahead to the future. TIP assists families in determining how advanced their students’ academic abilities are and what level of educational challenge is appropriate.

As part of the talent search enrollment, Duke TIP registers eligible seventh graders to take either the ACT (no Writing) or SAT as an above-level test. This allows students to have greater insight into their abilities and it gives them the opportunity to preview a college entrance exam.
