What's Happening in the Library?

Our All Stars have been busy learning the ins and outs of the library! Students have practiced checking in and checking out books and learned how to take care of their library books. They even became book doctors, diagnosing problems with some damaged books while also discussing ways they can help prevent book damage.

K–3rd graders have been learning how to use the 5-Finger Strategy to find “just-right” books, while 4th–5th graders participated in a Genre Gallery Walk to explore different genres and discover books that are a good fit for them.

Coming Up

Our Hispanic Heritage Reading Challenge begins September 15 and runs through October 15! Students will receive a Monthly Cultural Heritage Reading Challenge featuring fiction, nonfiction, and biography books that celebrate Hispanic traditions, customs, holidays, culture, and the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans. The challenge is optional, but students are encouraged to check out these titles and participate throughout the month!

Also, save the date for our Fall Book Fair, October 5–9! The Book Fair will also be open during Literacy + STEAM Night on October 7th. The Book Fair will close at noon on Friday, October 9. More information will be coming soon!

Library Books

The first parent listed on your child’s registration can now receive regular emails each time your student checks out library books. These emails are a great way to keep track of book due dates and spark conversations about what your child is reading.

Please remind students to carry water bottles or place them in their backpack’s side pouch to prevent leaks on library books. Keeping books in a large ziplock bag (gallon or two-gallon) is also helpful for protecting books. If a book is lost or damaged, parents can pay in cash or via the My School Bucks app at www.MySchoolBucks.com.

Parents can check out up to 5 library books! You are welcome to check out books with your child before school. If you would prefer to come at another time during the school day, please reach out to me to schedule a time.
