What's Happening in the Library?

September was packed with fun in the library! We kicked off the year with two reading challenges: the Monthly Cultural Reading Challenge for Hispanic Heritage Month and the BEE Book Challenge. Students, parents, and teachers can pick up copies of the challenges in the library and participate throughout the year.

The News Crew is off to a great start, too! Our student reporters have been working hard to keep everyone informed during the morning announcements.

Students also visited the library each week to learn how to access Sora, Destiny eBooks, and the library databases available to all students. There are lots of great digital resources in SSO available for reading, research, and learning!

Get ready! Our Pumpkin Book Character activity is coming soon!

Scholastic Book Fair/Literacy + STEAM Night

Students have started attending their Scholastic Book Fair previews, and it has been so much fun watching them get excited about books!

The Book Fair will be open October 5–9, closing at noon on Friday, October 9. Families can still set up an eWallet for students to use during the fair or sign up to volunteer and help us make the week a success!

Don't forget about Literacy + STEAM Night on October 7th. In-N-Out will start serving the pre-ordered meals at 5:00pm. Literacy + STEAM Night events will be held in the main hallway from 5:30-7:00.

Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized from September 15 through October 15!

To celebrate, all students have the option to complete a Monthly Cultural Reading Challenge featuring a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and biography books highlighting Hispanic traditions, customs, holidays, and culture. The challenge also includes books celebrating the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Students are encouraged to check out these titles and participate in this optional reading challenge throughout the month. Completed challenges are due October 16, 2026.
