Last Friday was a busy day at Vega Elementary!
2nd graders participated in the 2nd Grade Store, where they became producers and consumers by creating, marketing, and selling their own products.

3rd graders also impressed us with their Living History Museum projects after researching influential people and sharing what they learned through creative presentations. We are so proud of all of their hard work, creativity, and teamwork! 📚✨

Over the last few weeks, our 3rd graders have been visiting the library to learn how to take notes, follow copyright rules, and cite their sources in a bibliography while preparing for their projects. They have worked so hard in both the library and the classroom to research and prepare for their Living Museum presentations. We can’t wait to see their amazing work tomorrow at the 3rd Grade Living Museum! 📚✨

Yesterday, our 3rd graders had the exciting opportunity to participate in a virtual author visit with Katherine Applegate! Students learned about her writing process, how she comes up with new story ideas, and the importance of creativity and imagination. They also participated in a fun brainstorming activity where they created their own original book characters. It was an inspiring experience for our young readers and writers!

Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students have been putting their coding skills to work with Ozobots! Students connected science concepts to computational thinking by creating coded paths and solving problems through hands-on learning.

A special thank you to McKinney Education Foundation for funding the purchase of our Ozobots a few years ago and helping provide these engaging learning opportunities for our students!

Students are loving the new bean bag chairs and rugs, which have created cozy, inviting spaces to read and relax. Our makerspace has also been buzzing with creativity! Students are building with Legos to reinforce reading and storytelling concepts, while also exploring coding with new coding cards. Thanks to McKinney Education Foundation, our library is more engaging and welcoming than ever for our students.

We’re so grateful for these additions and the joy they’re bringing to our library!

Thank you, McKinney Education Foundation, for supporting our Vega Library Refresh! 📚

The new biographies purchased with grant funds has already made a big impact—especially for 3rd grade students working on their Living History Museum projects. These books are helping students research, learn, and connect with important figures in history, all while offering a range of reading levels.

We are so grateful for this support and the difference it’s making for our students! ✨

📚 Vega Celebrates Read Across America!

Vega had so much fun celebrating Read Across America Day this week! Students enjoyed special guest readers on Monday and tried to guess our masked mystery readers on the morning announcements throughout the week.

A special shoutout to all of the parents who volunteered their time to read to classes on Monday! We appreciate your support in helping our students celebrate the joy of reading.

Students can keep the celebration going by participating in the Read Across America Reading Challenge during the month of March! Each student is challenged to read two books from each region of the United States and record them on their Read Across America reading log. Students can find book suggestions in the Vega Library or on Destiny Discover in SSO. Happy reading! 📖✨

🌟 Today, the 2nd Grade All Stars brought their financial literacy skills to life by creating and selling their own goods and services at the 2nd Grade Store! They did an amazing job running the store and sharing their creativity with staff and students. It was a fun and meaningful way to apply what they’ve learned in class! 💰🛍️📚

💡 In the Makerspace, these determined 3rd graders rose to the challenge! After several visits and lots of problem-solving, they were able to code their Ozobot across a bridge they engineered using only popsicle sticks and tape. Their bridge had to be sturdy enough to support the Ozobot and tall enough to fit a hand underneath—impressive teamwork and perseverance!

Kind Minds, Big Hearts Parade at Vega Elementary

As National Autism Acceptance Month wrapped up last month, students at Vega Elementary came up with an amazing idea: let’s celebrate unique friendships and kindness on our campus - with a PARADE!

See video: https://youtu.be/RLZPxZqFREI

The autistic population, alongside supporting friends and staff, walked the main hallway of Vega, handing out fun items and celebrating neurodiversity in their community.
