About Serenity

Serenity High is one of America’s longest-tenured recovery high schools. It opened October 11, 1999. It is a part of the McKinney Independent School District. Serenity High is open to students who have successfully completed a recognized treatment program and who want to complete requirements to earn a Texas high school diploma. Students at Serenity are not judged by race, gender, religion or social standing.

Serenity provides:

  • The opportunity to earn a high school diploma;

  • A safe and sober campus;

  • A smooth transition from treatment back into school;

  • Support for sobriety (on-campus recovery support features AA and NA meetings);

  • A low student-teacher ratio;

  • Individualized instruction tailored to each student’s needs;

  • Individualized counseling of each student regarding academic, personal and social development;

  • Life-skills mentoring by staff to assist in character growth of each student;

  • A peer support group of others in recovery that holds each student accountable;

  • Improved communications between students, parents and the school;

  • Team-building events; and

  • Ongoing community service projects.

The students at Serenity High view themselves as a family. Their focus is on staying sober and completing their high school education.
