What happens if an item from the library is damaged or lost?
Students will be asked to remit payment for any damage that cannot be repaired, for books that have liquid or food damage, and for books that are lost.
For the health and safety of our patrons, we are unable to return books with water or any form of liquid damage to our collection. Even when thoroughly dried, these books grow mold over time which will spread to other books.
How do I know if my student has an overdue book or library fine?
Parents should receive an email notification when their student returns and check-out books. Parents should also receive email notifications concerning overdue books. If a book is marked as lost and a fine is assessed, the book may still be returned and the fine will automatically be removed. However, if a book is returned with damage, a fine for the damage will be assessed.
How do I remit payment?
Fines will be added to your student's My School Bucks Account and may be paid online. To pay for a lost or damaged library book, please go to https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ or use the MySchoolBucks mobile app. Register for a free account if you have not done so previously.
You are also able to remit payment in the form of cash or check made out to Press Elementary. Please visit the Learning Commons for in-person payments. Please note, credit card payments must be made online and we are unable to make change for cash payments.
Thank you for your support in maintaining our library resources.
Can I purchase a replacement on Amazon or at a bookstore? No.
Parents are often shocked with the cost to replace library books. It is important to know that we do not accept used or new copies in place of the replacement cost. Instead, we provide parents the cost we pay our vendor to replace the book. Per MISD guidelines book guidelines, we must replace the book with the EXACT ISBN number. Copies not already in our catalog may not be added per district policy.
When we purchase a book from our vendor, our cost includes public read aloud rights. Additionally, most of our books are purchased with a lifetime vendor warranty to make them more durable for heavy use. And, we remit payment to the vendor for call number, genre, and barcode labels. We pay for MARC records (allows books to be searched online) for every book in our collection.
However, we do not pass these additional charges on to the student. We only charge the cost of the book replacement from our vendor.

When are books due?
Books are due two weeks (14 days) after you check them out. We don't charge fines for late returns, but please bring books back as soon as you're done with them. However, books that are overdue by 60 days (74 days checked-out) will be considered lost.
Students are welcome to keep books longer than two weeks, but please come to the Learning Commons to renew your books. This will prevent the books from being marked as overdue or lost.
For books checked out longer than 45 days, an overdue notice will be sent home with the student. If the books are not returned promptly after this notice, the overdue books will be marked as lost and assessed a replacement cost.
Parents/guardians may reach out to Mrs. Bulot, our Library Media Specialist, with questions or to request assistance with fines.
