What is the student tardy policy?

1. Definitions

  • Tardy:
A student is marked tardy if they have not crossed the classroom threshold by the time the bell rings. Students who enter the classroom within 0 to 9 minutes of class without an excused pass are considered tardy.

  • Absent:
A student is marked absent if they enter the classroom 10 or more minutes after class begins. Since classes are approximately 50 minutes long, students must be present for at least 90% of the class (i.e., they can miss no more than 9 minutes). Entering at the 10th minute or later results in an absence.

2. Procedures for 1st Period Tardiness

  • Arrivals between 7:30 – 7:39 AM:

    • Students arriving during this time must obtain a tardy pass at the Main Entrance from the Tardy Kiosk line.

  • Arrivals after 7:39 AM:

    • Students must check themselves in and receive a slip in the Main Office using the student computer.

    • Alternatively, students may check in at the nearest House Office.

3. Procedures for 2nd – 7th Period Tardiness

  • As students enter the classroom, the teacher will initially mark them absent in eSchool.

  • If a student is tardy, they must present a Tardy Slip to the teacher.

  • The House Secretary will update the tardy status in eSchool by the end of the day.

  • An automated email will be sent to both the student and parent on the day of the tardy, including the period, date, and any applicable disciplinary action.
