What is the student tardy policy?

1. Definitions

  • Tardy:
    Students who enter the classroom at any point after the tardy bell rings, they must have checked in to obtain a Minga tardy pass. Minga will automatically notify the teacher of the tardy and send an electronic hall pass.

  • Absent:
    A student is marked absent if they enter the classroom 10 or more minutes after class begins. Since classes are approximately 50 minutes long, students must be present for at least 90% of the class (i.e., they can miss no more than 9 minutes). Entering at the 10th minute or later results in an absence.

2. Procedures for 1st Period Tardiness

  • Arrivals between 7:20 – 7:29 AM:

    • Students arriving during this time must obtain a Minga tardy pass at the Main Entrance from the Tardy Kiosk line.

  • Arrivals after 7:29 AM:

    • Students will need check in at the nearest House Office.

3. Procedures for 2nd – 7th Period Tardiness

  • As students enter the classroom, the teacher will initially mark them absent in eSchool.

  • If a student is tardy, they must present a Minga tardy Slip to the teacher.

  • The House Secretary will update the tardy status in eSchool by the end of the day.

  • An automated email will be sent to both the student and parent on the day of the tardy, including the period, date, and any applicable disciplinary action.

4. Disciplinary Actions for Tardiness

  • Tardy Warnings:

    • Each student receives two tardy warnings per semester.

    • Warning notifications are sent via email through eCampus.

  • 3rd Tardy:

    • 30-minute detention

    • Location: Room F-100 / Lecture Hall / Fishbowl

  • 4th Tardy:

    • 1-hour detention

    • Location: Room F-100 / Lecture Hall / Fishbowl

  • 5th Tardy:

    • 2-hour detention

    • Location: Room F-100 / Lecture Hall / Fishbowl

  • 6th Tardy:

    • 4-hour detention

    • Location: Room F-100 / Lecture Hall / Fishbowl

  • 7th Tardy:

    • In-School Suspension (ISS) placement

    • Administrator will assign the suspension and notify the parent via email or phone.

  • 8th and Subsequent Tardies:

    • Discipline referral, parent conference, and a 4-hour detention

    • Administrator will assign the consequence and notify the parent via email or phone.
