Student Book List

WHY 3RD-5TH GRADE BOOK LISTS?

Third-fifth grade students are expected to bring a book wish list to the library. This expectation is designed to help your child find books they'll love while making the library experience more efficient and effective for everyone. Instead of having students browse the shelves for the perfect book, we have them create a book wish list, using the online catalog, in the classroom beforehand.

HOW?

Using a “How-to” video created by Mrs. Stallbaumer, 3rd-5th grade Reading teachers taught students how to make a book wish list. Students browse the online catalog to self-select books where they can read summaries and select books that genuinely interest them and match their reading ability. They create a list of their top choices before they come to the library.

RESULTS

When it's their turn to visit the library, the book list allows Mrs. Stallbaumer to help students find their books more quickly and efficiently. With the student's book wish list in hand, Mrs. Stallbaumer can quickly see their reading interests and provide recommendations for other books students might like if their first choices aren't available.

AT HOME BOOK WISH LISTS

Help your students select the "Just Right Books" for them by searching the catalog and helping them create a "My List" of books. Send the printed list with your student to the library and we will be happy to help them find the books on the list.

If you create a list at home, please make sure you let Mrs. Stallbaumer know if your student may check out books NOT on the list or if they are ONLY allowed the books on the list. While books may be in at the time of list creation, they may be checked out by the time your child comes to the library.
