The SJMS Band Program is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are learning a band instrument and cultivating a love of music. In the student's first year, they are placed in the appropriate Beginner Band class to learn the basics of their instrument. In the student's second year and third year, they are placed in an appropriate level of performing ensemble continue to grow their individual skills on their instrument, as well as work on the skills of performing with other people.

Katie Zeier is entering her 9th year as Director of Bands at Scott Johnson Middle School. She previously taught in Plano ISD, Birdville ISD, and Lewisville ISD. Mrs. Zeier earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas.

Mrs. Zeier is an active adjudicator and clinician in the North Texas area. In 2017, she presented at the state PBIS convention in Houston. She was "Teacher of the Year" for Carpenter Middle School in 2014 and Watauga Middle School in 2007. Mrs. Zeier is also a Texas Lifetime PTA recipient.

Mrs. Zeier is an active member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

Katie Peichel is entering her 6th year as Assistant Band Director at Scott Johnson Middle School. Before coming to SJMS, Mrs. Peichel completed her student teaching at Cooper Junior High School and Wylie High School in Wylie ISD. While she was there, she was mentored by Todd Dixon, Mark Schroeder, Steve Lisko, Adam Powell, Misty Smith, and Lynne Jackson. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 2021 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish and Bachelor's of Music in Music Education and Flute Performance. 

Mrs. Peichel is an active performer with the McKinney Community Band. She also co-directs the McKinney Flute Choir with Tracie Kaip. 

Mrs. Peichel is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. She lives in Allen with her husband, Ryan.
