Program Information
The band program at Faubion Middle School serves students in 6th-8th grade. Beginner band students learn in like-instrument classes. Students are taught the fundamentals of playing their instrument and the foundations of music literacy. There are 3 advanced ensembles for 7th and 8th graders that continue to build on content taught in beginner band.

Band Placements
Students will be evaluated on their playing skills, behavior, attitude, and effort. We are very careful to consider all these aspects when we are placing the students in a band class. We do our best to match them with a class that is best for their long-term success.
All students wishing to continue in band will be accepted in a band class. Placements specifically in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Honors Band, are done in May and are based on the developmental needs of each individual student. In addition to a performance evaluation, we also take into consideration: Band Karate pass-offs, Band Bingo pass-offs, tonal/technical development, knowledge of music reading and musical concepts, sectional attendance, as well as behavior, attitude and effort.
Our goal is to provide superior quality music education, and empower our students to achieve at the highest levels in a safe environment that is conducive to developing life-long learners. We also provide a group where students feel a sense of belonging. We truly believe that the McKinney Bands are some of the best and brightest students in the district, and we thank you for the opportunity to teach your children now and in the future! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions.
