Elementary Music
The McKinney ISD elementary music program provides high quality music instruction to every student in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program is led by state certified music educators who have opportunities for advanced training in Kodály, Orff-Schulwerk, and World Music Drumming.
Elementary music teachers write, implement, and teach a masterful curriculum that aligns with state and national standards. Their classrooms include a full complement of pitched and unpitched musical instruments. Additionally, they lead after-school choir and ensemble programs and prepare students for concerts and musical performances that strengthen school communities.
The elementary music program also offers enriching experiences beyond the classroom, including field trips to festivals, live orchestra performances, and Choral Celebration, a districtwide combined choir concert for fifth grade students.
Most importantly, the elementary music program uses music to build meaningful connections that support academic success and social-emotional development, creating experiences that enrich students and their communities for a lifetime.
