The Dowell Middle School choir has a longstanding tradition of excellence. Students develop music literacy skills while engaging in meaningful performance experiences and collaborating with their peers through an enjoyable and diverse repertoire.

Mrs. Carrie Hood is in her 8th year of teaching and her 2nd year as the Director of Choirs at Dowell Middle School in McKinney ISD, where she teaches the Canto Leonis (6th Grade) Choirs, Cambiata Tenor-Bass Choir, Concert (Non-Varsity) Treble Choir, and Chamber (Varsity) Treble Choir. Mrs. Hood currently serves on the leadership team For TMEA Region 24 Middle School Vocal Division as the Chair-Elect.

Under her direction, the Dowell choirs have received superior ratings at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contests as well as numerous Superior awards at local festivals, including Pride of Texas.

Mrs. Hood received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Texas Tech University’s Talkington School of Visual and Performing Arts. While at Texas Tech, Mrs. Hood studied under Dr. Rick Bjella, Dr. John Hollins, Dr. Carolyn Cruse, and Dr. Rebecca Hays. As part of her performance degree, Mrs. Hood performed in many productions, including Phantom of the Opera (Carlotta), Le Nozze di Figaro (Barbarina), Cats, and Pirates of Penzance. Mrs. Hood is a graduate of Lovejoy High School and was a member of the 2013 TMEA Honor Choir.

​Her professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, and National Choral Directors Association. She is married to Mr. Zach Hood with whom she has a beautiful daughter, Estella. In their free time, they love to go on walks, play board games, read, and play with their pets - two shih-poos named Wax and Wayne, and a Siamese cat named Maya!
