Arrival Procedures
Our procedures ensure safety and efficiency for our Bennett Bears and Bennett students.
Doors Open at 7:40am
Tardy Bell rings at 8:10am
Breakfast is served 7:40am- 8:05am in the Cafeteria.
Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students wait in the cafeteria from 7:40-8:00am. At 8:00am, grade level teachers will walk students to their classrooms.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students wait in the gym from 7:40-8:00am. At 8:00am, students are released to walk to their classrooms.
CARPOOL
You may drop off students in the front or back of the building. The front and back doors are unlocked from 7:40-8:10am. Staff members and safety patrol students are present to greet students.
Students should exit the passenger side of the vehicle.
If your child is not able to independently exit the vehicle, or is not able to unbuckle their own seatbelt, you will need to park your car and walk your student to the crosswalk. Staff are not able to assist children with their safety belts.
Please do NOT park in the carpool lane. We need to keep traffic flowing. If you wish to park, please utilize a parking space.
Do NOT drop students off in the parking lot. Please utilize the carpool drop off lane.
BIKES/SCOOTERS
We have several bike racks available for student use.
We recommend the use of a lock.
Helmets may be kept in a students locker or cubby during the school day.
Dismissal Procedures
Our dismissal procedures ensure safety and efficiency for our Bennett Bear and Bennett staff.
Dismissal: 3:20 - 3:30pm
All students must be picked up by 3:30pm
You are required to show a valid photo ID to school staff if you do not have a dismissal tag.
CARPOOL/CAR RIDERS
Please stay in your car and have your carpool number clearly visible.
Student(s) will enter from the passenger side.
Student(s) will only be released to a car with a DISMISSAL Tag.
If you forget yours, please go to the front office with a valid picture ID to pick up your student(s).
PARENT WALK-UP
Line begins at the front door of the school.
Students will exit from the FRONT DOOR, only.
Student(s) will be released to adults with a DISMISSAL tag.
If you forget yours, please go to the front office with a valid picture ID to pick up your student(s).
Please park in the FRONT parking lot and do NOT block the carpool lane.
Park in designated spaces, and use the crosswalk for safety and to keep traffic flowing.
Staff will not allow students to cross into the parking lot without an adults.
WALK AWAY STUDENTS/BIKE RIDERS
These students meet their parents/grown-ups OFF campus or WALK all the way home.
Parents/adults who come on campus MUST park in a designated space.
Parents/adults who come on campus MUST pick up their student at the Parent walk-up door at the front of the building.
Dismissal Options for the 25/26 school year
Form to let us know how your student will go home on the 1st day, and everyday after that.
NO parking on Round Hill Drive as our Front carpool lane is impacted by the parked cars.
1. Club 360 - - must sign up through McKinney ISD Club 360
2. Daycare Bus - - let teacher know the name and address of the Daycare
3. Front Carpool - - student picked up in the FRONT car line
4. Back Carpool - - student picked up in the BACK car line
5. Parent Walk-up @ the front door - - parent parks in front lot and joins like at front door
6. FRONT Walk Away/biker - - student walks/bikes/scooters home OR meets their grown-up off campus and leaves out the cafeteria door to walk West & South of the campus. This crossing guard is in the front of the school. Parents should not park in the front lot and meet their child under the tree.
7. BACK Walk Away/biker - - student walks/bikes/scooters home OR meets their grown-up off campus and leaves out the door of the gym. This is the best option for students walking NORTH. This crossing guard is Ms. Betty, at the back of the school.
Parents/Guardians/Grown-ups may not meet their child on campus. You may not wait for your student near the front door or near the bike rack.
For safety reasons, anyone coming on campus MUST join the parent walk-up line OR be in a vehicle utilizing a designated carpool lane.
Students should NEVER walk into the parking lot without an adult. Staff will NOT allow a student to cross the crosswalk without an adult.
Students should NEVER cross Coronado Drive or Round Hill Drive to get into a vehicle.
NO parking on Round Hill Drive as our Front carpool lane is impacted by the parked cars.
What if I need to change the way my child is going home?
On Meet the Teacher Night you will tell your student's teacher how they are going home on the 1st day of school AND every day after that. If you need to CHANGE the way your student is going home, you will be required to complete the dismissal change form.
This notifies the office AND your student's teacher of the dismissal change. The office sends an email daily at 2:50pm to all staff with the changes.
You may email your teacher the dismissal change, but understand the teacher may not see the email until after the instructional day.
Example: my child is a front carpool rider everyday. Their sibling is ill and I need them to walk home. I would complete the form to notify the school.
Bad Weather Dismissal Procedures
Student safety is our priority! Yes, dismissal WILL take longer.
Students who walk home or ride a bike/scooter will NOT be dismissed if there is hail, thunder, lightening, sleet or ice. Administrators will determine when it is safe to dismiss students.
Parents/Adults who want to pick up their student are to join the CARPOOL line OR the Parent Walk-Up line. You must have your DISMISSAL tag or go to the office with your valid photo ID.
Staff will NOT dismiss from the walker dismissal door.
ALL other dismissals will proceed as usual.
