2021–2022 — What a GREAT School Year! (May 20, 2022)

Good Afternoon McKinney ISD Parents,

It’s hard to believe that next week we will be handing diplomas to the Graduating Class of 2022, and I wanted to take this brief opportunity to celebrate what a great school year we’ve experienced this year.

When you look back over the last year, this will go down as one of the most successful school years in McKinney ISD history. I’d like to take a moment to recap just a few of the many accomplishments of our students.

At the elementary level, the McKinney ISD Alpha/GT students were featured for their amazing work with the Lego Robotics program. Lego was so impressed with our students’ work, they reached out to McKinney ISD to feature these students in a Lego South by Southwest video.

Elementary students in 4th and 5th grades competed in a simulation Stock Market Game with great success. Three of our teams swept the podium at the regional level and finished in the top 20 in the state out of over 1,300 teams.

Our elementary math program was well represented in the National MathCon competition. Nine of our 4th and 5th grade students qualified for the national finals in Chicago.

The Faubion Middle School Choir was chosen as a TMEA Invited Choir, one of the most prestigious choir honors in Texas.

One of the most exciting accomplishments this year was following the McKinney High School Basketball team as they advanced to the state championship game, along the way breaking numerous district records for boys basketball.

While we’re on the subject of state champions, McKinney North student Camille Murray became North’s first-ever State Champion Swimmer, while at the same time shattering the 5A record in the backstroke.

We had 69 seniors from our district earn National Merit and College Board recognition; that is DOUBLE the number from last year.

Also – over 700 of our AP students earned recognition from the College Board.

And finally, McKinney High School junior Ethan Bickel earned a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Computer Science Exam, placing him in the top .5 (half of one percent) of test-takers worldwide.

This represents just a small sample of amazing things that our students have accomplished this year. As we all wind down the school year and look forward to the summer break, I invite each of you to take a moment to remember how truly blessed we are to live in this amazing city, surrounded by so many amazing students and teachers.

Thanks for your support throughout this school year, and we can’t wait to see what our students will accomplish in the 2022-23 school year. Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rick McDaniel
