Third Annual Bedrooms, Backpacks and Beyond Event to Offer Information and Resources on Substance Use
On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, the McKinney ISD Substance Use Prevention Committee will once again host “Bedrooms, Backpacks and Beyond,” a workshop the committee introduced two years ago as a resource to parents.
The interactive workshop offers the opportunity to connect with other parents as well as the chance to learn from experts in the field of substance use prevention. Topics discussed will include: social media, substance use trends, community resources and how to start conversations with your kids. It’s free, and no registration is required.
“We’re excited to offer our families this third annual event,” said Jennifer Akins, MISD senior director of counseling and guidance. “It is geared toward parents to give them information and resources to keep their kids safe. We’ll learn about substance use trends; we’ll learn about coping strategies that parents can use with their children, and our goal is that parents leave our event feeling informed and ready to help their families stay safe.”
