Second Annual Bedrooms, Backpacks and Beyond Event Serves as a Free Substance Use Prevention Resource for Parents
McKinney, Texas – On Saturday, October 13, the McKinney ISD Substance Use Prevention Committee will host “Bedrooms, Backpacks and Beyond,” a workshop the committee introduced last year as a resource for parents.
“We’re excited to offer our families this second annual event,” said Jennifer Akins, MISD senior director of counseling and guidance. “It is geared toward parents to give them information and resources to keep their kids safe. We’ll learn about substance use trends; we’ll learn about coping strategies that parents can use with their children, and our goal is that parents leave our event feeling informed and ready to help their families stay safe.”
The event is free and offers childcare for ages 5–11.
In addition to the scheduled activities, Bedrooms, Backpacks and Beyond will feature interactive learning displays from community partners, mental health professionals and law enforcement. Parents are invited to come and go as desired.
