Dennis Womack, MISD Assistant Superintendent of Business, Operations and Technology

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD announced today that Dr. Dennis Womack has been named Assistant Superintendent of Business, Operations and Technology. Womack comes to MISD from Coppell ISD, where he has served for the past two years as Chief Operations Officer. He brings nearly three decades in public education to the job, all invested in North Texas school districts.

The position became available with the retirement announcement of MISD Deputy Superintendent Jason Bird.

“Dr. Womack brings a wealth of experience to McKinney ISD,” said Superintendent Shawn Pratt. “During his 27 years in public education, he has overseen finance, technology and operations, and we feel very fortunate to have him return to be part of our McKinney ISD family. We are confident that our students and staff will benefit from his leadership on our cabinet.”

Womack is not a newcomer to McKinney or MISD. He and his family have lived in McKinney since 2000, and he served from 1999 – 2005 as MISD’s senior director of technology and information services and later as the assistant superintendent for plant management.

He began his career as a business teacher and coach in Van Alstyne, but said that he gravitated to the business and operations side of administration because he enjoys school finance, facilities, construction, technology and the other services needed to support excellent teaching and learning.

After his time in Van Alstyne, Womack went to work for MISD and then served for 16 years in Lovejoy ISD as the assistant superintendent for operations and was interim superintendent at Lovejoy in 2019 and 2021. In 2016, he joined the faculty of the University of North Texas as an adjunct professor.

His previous responsibilities as an administrator have touched on almost every aspect of public education and have included but are not limited to overseeing and supporting custodial, grounds and maintenance services; capital projects; transportation; school safety and crisis management; technology; and school nutrition.

“I am excited to return home to the McKinney ISD family,” said Womack. “It’s an honor to work with such a dedicated group of educators who share the same mission of educating all of our students to their highest potential.”

Womack earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his master’s degree in teaching from Austin College. Later, he went on to earn his doctorate in education administration from the Toulouse Graduate School at the University of North Texas.

Womack and his wife Diane have two girls, Natalie (22) and Nicole (20). Diane is a Family Nurse Practitioner at Snyder-Hopkins Family Medical Center in McKinney, Texas. The Womack family have lived in McKinney since 2000.
