The McKinney ISD Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to 15 outstanding students from each MISD high school. It is the highest honor that a student can receive from the district.

McKinney, Texas – Each spring, the faculty of McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School choose 15 seniors from each of their campuses who exemplify the very best of McKinney ISD.

Upon each of these 45 remarkable seniors, MISD bestows the highest honor a student can receive from the district—the Distinguished Student Award.

The award celebrates everything that is great about MISD by honoring students who have demonstrated not only excellence in a particular area of study, but also character, integrity and leadership on their campus. Their lengthy résumés of accomplishments are highly impressive, but perhaps even more impressive is the positive impact that they have on their schools.

“McKinney ISD once again is honored to have such a diverse and well-rounded group of Distinguished Students,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel. “I could not be more proud of their accomplishments while attending McKinney ISD schools. More importantly, I look forward to the tremendous impact I know each of them will have on this world in their chosen professions. Thank you for your hard work and for representing the very best of McKinney ISD. We are all very happy for you.”

Recipients are selected in one of the following areas: English, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Career and Technology, Foreign Language, Fine Arts, Athletics, another specific field of study (At-Large), and the Valedictorian and Salutatorian from each high school.

In addition to these exceptional students, the district honors some of MISD’s finest teachers. Each of the Distinguished Students is asked to select the teacher who has made the most significant impact on his or her life, and these dedicated teachers are honored with the MISD Inspirational Teacher Award.

Typically, in late April, MISD hosts its Distinguished Student Awards dinner, where McDaniel and members of the MISD Board of Trustees are joined by family, faculty and community leaders as they recognize and honor each award recipient. Social distancing restrictions have precluded the dinner this year, but each student and teacher will receive his or her award through their respective campuses.

With those awards, MISD offers its deepest congratulations and respect for a job well done.
