Dear McKinney ISD Community,

As we observe with gladness the melting away of this historic winter storm, we look forward with equal sincerity to welcoming our McKinney ISD students back to school, and I am pleased to tell you that all MISD schools will resume their normal schedules on Monday, February 22.

While some of our campuses experienced some winter storm damage over the past week, MISD maintenance crews are hard at work making repairs, and I do not expect it to impact classroom instruction as students return to campus on Monday.

Having said that, the past week has been a very difficult time for our community and the entire state. Many of our MISD families have been without basic utilities for an extended period and are just now returning to a sense of normalcy. Some of our families must now deal with damage inflicted on their homes by this winter storm. Whatever your experience over the past week, we know that circumstances such as these can bring not only a burden of time and finances, but also take an emotional toll on families and especially children.

So, I want to remind you, if your child is having a difficult time dealing with the stress of the past week, we will have school counselors on campus ready to help Monday morning. If the impact of this winter storm will make it difficult for your child to return on Monday, for whatever reason, please contact your campus and let them know.

The stories that I have heard about members of the McKinney community reaching out in kindness to help others during this crisis make me proud to lead this school district and to be a member of this community.

As we return to school next week, let us do so with that spirit of understanding, support and kindness.

Estimada comunidad de McKinney ISD,

Mientras observamos con alegría el derretimiento de esta histórica tormenta de invierno, esperamos con igual sinceridad dar la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes de McKinney ISD de regreso a la escuela, y me complace decirles que todas las escuelas de MISD reanudarán sus actividades normales horarios el lunes 22 de febrero.

Si bien algunos de nuestros campus experimentaron algunos daños por tormentas de invierno durante la semana pasada, los equipos de mantenimiento de MISD están trabajando arduamente para hacer reparaciones y no espero que esto afecte la instrucción en el aula cuando los estudiantes regresen al campus el lunes.

Habiendo dicho eso, la semana pasada ha sido un momento muy difícil para nuestra comunidad y todo el estado. Muchas de nuestras familias de MISD han estado sin servicios básicos durante un período prolongado y ahora están regresando a un sentido de normalidad. Algunas de nuestras familias ahora tratan con los daños infligidos a sus hogares por esta tormenta de invierno. Cualquiera que sea su experiencia durante la semana pasada, sabemos que circunstancias como éstas pueden traer no solo una carga de tiempo y finanzas, sino también tener un costo emocional en las familias y especialmente en los niños.

Entonces, quiero recordarles, si su hijo/a está teniendo dificultades para tratar con el estrés de la semana pasada, tendremos consejeros escolares en el campus listos para ayudar el lunes por la mañana. Si el impacto de esta tormenta de invierno dificulta que su hijo regrese el lunes, por cualquier motivo, comuníquese con su campus y avíseles.

Las historias que he escuchado sobre miembros de la comunidad de McKinney que se acercaron con amabilidad para ayudar a otros durante esta crisis me enorgullecen de liderar este distrito escolar y ser miembro de esta comunidad.

Al regresar a la escuela la semana que viene, hagámoslo con ese espíritu de comprensión, apoyo y amabilidad.
