McKinney ISD will be taking additional safety precautions this summer related to the district’s 1 to the World Technology Initiative. The district will be disabling several programs on school issued devices in an effort to reduce security risks. Student issued laptop and iPad cameras will be disabled throughout the summer, as well as Zoom meeting software and access to YouTube. Zoom access will not be available next year, as the district will be 100% face-to-face and not be offering a virtual school option.
The decision to disable cameras, Zoom, and YouTube this summer was made after careful consideration with the primary goal of reducing potential safety and security issues for students. A small number of students receiving extended school year services will be exempt from the measures, as these functions may be applicable to district-related academic programs. Access to cameras and YouTube will be restored at the end of the summer. We appreciate your ongoing support in our efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for students.
