McKinney High School has a new head football coach, and his name is Marcus Shavers. That name may not be top-of-mind to the average resident of Collin County, but over the last two years, he has captured the attention—and respect—of those who follow high school football in the Lubbock area. The Texas School Counselor Association chose Vega Elementary to receive a 2017 CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) Award for its outstanding counseling program that engages the entire Vega community to help kids succeed.
Adrianna Hicks graduated from McKinney High School in 2007. She’s forged a career that has been steadily rising ever since. Now, she’s the star of the touring production of "The Color Purple", and she took time out after the show on Jan. 26 to talk with some current MHS theatre and choir students.
The Cockrill Middle School Honors Band has built a legacy of excellence over the past 10 years that brings annual recognition and awards. This year is no different. For 2018, they are one of only three middle school bands in the country to receive the prestigious Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
