McKinney ISD will utilize both Bad Weather days (April 15 and April 25) that are built into the school calendar to make up for the February school closings (February 3 and February 4) due to inclement weather. The district will seek a waiver from the Texas Education Agency for the third missed instructional day (February 24) and does not expect that students or staff will have to make up this missed school day.
This year, McKinney ISD's ALPHA students at Webb took part in Lego Education's 10-part Build to Launch STEAM Exploration program, a collaboration between Lego and NASA designed to spark student curiosity and increase engagement in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). The videos that MISD ALPHA students submitted caught the attention of Lego, who chose to feature them in the introductory video for their South by Southwest® (SXSW®) EDU Session.
MISD kicked off a new partnership with Manner Polymers in McKinney on March 1 at Faubion Middle School. The day focused on sixth grade science classes, where educators from the Society of Plastics Engineers led students through engaging, inquiry-based investigations into the world of plastics engineering.
On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Cirrus Aircraft presented the McKinney ISD Aviation program with a check for $25,000 as a gesture of their commitment and excitement about partnering with MISD.
Reuben Johnson Elementary Assistant Principal Rachel Corbin has been named the 2021–2022 Region 10 Assistant Principal of the Year by TEPSA (Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association).
The McKinney ISD two-way dual language program offered at Caldwell Elementary is currently accepting applications through April 8, 2022, for the 2022–2023 school year.
McKinney North High School Counselor Debra Fort has been named the Rhosine Fleming Texas High School Counselor of the Year by the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA), and 17 McKinney ISD campuses have earned CREST awards (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) from TSCA—the highest number of MISD campuses to receive the award in the same year.
UIL released its Texas high school athletics realignment for the 2022–2024 school years on Thursday, Feb. 3. McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School will remain in a virtually unchanged District 5-6A, while new opponents and more travel await McKinney North football in District 7-5A.
Camille Murray became the first swim and dive athlete from McKinney North to claim the title of State Champion when she won gold medals in the 100 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Backstroke at the 5A State Swim & Dive Meet in February!
As if that weren’t impressive enough…her time of 53.82 set a new 5A State Record in the Backstroke!
And…she was named the Swimmer of the Meet by the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA)!
And…she has been named the Swimming Athlete of the Year by the Texas Girls Coaching Association (TGCA)!

The MHS Lions basketball team ended their season at the Alamodome with their best postseason finish ever as the 6A Boys Basketball State Runner-Up as they fell to defending champions Duncanville in the 6A state final.
To the Lions players and coaches, thank you for a thrilling season and for the way that you represented McKinney High School, McKinney ISD and the entire McKinney community throughout the playoffs.
