Scott Johnson Middle School Principal Holly Rogers has been named the 2021-2022 Region 10 Middle School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP). We sat down with Rogers to talk about the TASSP award, why connections matter and what she loves about her job.

For 2021, the Faubion Cambiata Tenor-Bass Choir has earned the highly coveted distinction of being named a Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Middle School Invited Choir. That means that they have been chosen to perform at the renowned TMEA Clinic/Convention which is held in San Antonio each February. To be invited is an honor bestowed upon only a handful of Texas middle school choir ensembles each year—just four in 2021.

McKinney North High School Orchestra Director Lamar Smith was named a Director of Distinction this summer by the Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA). Smith is one of the first recipients of the award and one of only two directors in the state to receive the honor this year.

National non-profit SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted) has named Dr. Javetta Jones Roberson its 2021 Educator of the Year. Roberson currently serves as McKinney ISD’s secondary advanced academics and gifted and talented coordinator and as an adjunct professor in the University of North Texas Teacher Education and Administration Department.

The McKinney ISD Interdisciplinary Study and Mentorship (ISM) program is seeking professionals from the community to participate in mock interviews with ISM students during its 6th Annual Business Symposium on Friday, September 17, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Collin College Conference Center.

At their August meeting on Tuesday night, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved a 9.8 cent property tax rate decrease for 2021–2022 that will result in approximately $370 in savings on annual property taxes for the average McKinney home value ($377,755).

McKinney ISD has announced its policy that this school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. However, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year.
