Three MISD Soccer Teams Advance to the Regional Semifinal Round for First Time in MISD History
McKinney, TX — For the first time in its history, McKinney ISD has advanced three soccer teams to the Regional Semifinal of the 6A and 5A UIL soccer playoffs.
The McKinney Boyd Lady Broncos forged their path to the fourth round in the 6A playoffs with wins over Hebron (2-1), Highland Park (3-1) and Prosper (1-0). Next, they will face Southlake Carroll in front of a hometown crowd in the 6A Regional Semifinal on Friday, April 7, at MISD Stadium (4201 S. Hardin Blvd., McKinney, TX 75070). McKinney Boyd won girls soccer state championships in 2008 and 2011.
In the 5A girls soccer playoffs, the McKinney North Lady Bulldogs advance to a Semifinal matchup against Frisco that will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at Standridge Stadium (1330 Valwood Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75006). On their run through the Bi-District, Area, and Regional Quarterfinal rounds, the Lady Bulldogs posted wins over Crandall (3-1), Pine Tree (3-1) and Hallsville (4-1), outscoring opponents 10-3 over the stretch.
Not to be outdone, in the 5A UIL boys bracket, the McKinney North Bulldogs have recorded victories over Corsicana (4-1), Nacogdoches (3-0) and Whitehouse (2-0) with a stingy defense that has given up only one goal over the course of their playoff run. Next, they face Frisco Reedy in the Semifinal round at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at Standridge Stadium (1330 Valwood Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75006).
“We’ve always had a rich tradition of winning within our McKinney ISD soccer programs,” said MISD Director of Athletics Jennifer Frazier. “But, to be able to send three soccer programs to the regional tournament is beyond exciting. The success of these programs is a direct result of the hard work from our coaches and players, and we are proud of how they are representing our district at the regional level.”
