McKinney ISD welcomed teachers new to the district at the annual McKinney Chamber of Commerce New Teacher Breakfast that was held on Wed., Aug. 3, at McKinney High School.

McKinney, Texas – All across McKinney ISD, teachers reported back to campus Tuesday to kick off a week of in-service meetings, team building and classroom preparations as they make the final push toward the start of school on Wed., Aug. 10.

Among them were some 400 teachers new to the district who poured into McKinney High School on Wednesday morning for the annual MISD New Teacher Breakfast, hosted by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Trinity Falls. They were welcomed by MISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel, members of the MISD Board of Trustees and Mayor George Fuller as well as a host of local businesses.

After breakfast, attendees made their way to the MHS Performing Arts Center where they were treated to spirited performances from the MHS cheerleaders, MHS drum line and Marquettes.

Board President Amy Dankel welcomed the attendees to MISD, and keynote speaker Libby Spears emphasized the life-changing impact that educators can have on students through a humorous and heartfelt presentation about her elementary school principal whose kindness and patience helped changed the course of her own life.

McDaniel concluded the proceedings with a brief address from the stage where he reflected on his first day as a new teacher many years ago, sitting in a new teacher orientation.

“You know what I remember most about what they told me?” McDaniel asked. “Nothing. What I do remember is this,” he said. “I can remember that sense of welcome they gave all of us. You may not remember every word that is spoken this morning, but what I want you to feel is that you are part of something larger than yourself…It’s not the facilities that make the difference; It’s the individuals who walk inside these walls every day with a mission and a charge to make a difference in the lives of kids.”

As he closed his remarks, McDaniel pointed toward the future and reminded them that one day they will look back on the lifetime of work that they will have invested in students. “Think of the impact and the difference that you [will] make in all of those kids’ lives.”
