McKinney ISD held its 2022 commencement services for McKinney North High School, McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School on Monday, May 23, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.

McKinney ISD held its 2022 commencement services for McKinney North High School, McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School on Monday, May 23, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel has long said it’s one of his favorite days of the school year, the one day on the district’s calendar which offers him the opportunity to fulfill the joyful duty of conferring the title of “graduate” upon the seniors of MISD’s three high schools.

Held at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center (CUTEC) in Allen on Monday, May 23, the 2022 commencement exercises for McKinney North High School (9 a.m.), McKinney Boyd High School (11:30 a.m.) and McKinney High School (5:30 p.m.) comprised a day-long celebration that seemed particularly sweet, arriving at the conclusion of a school year that brought for the first time in two years, a sense of normalcy.

During their four years of high school, these graduates of 2022 endured a pandemic-induced shutdown in the spring of their sophomore year, and as juniors, they navigated the uncharted waters of returning to in-person learning while some continued their academic journey online. But, 2021–2022 saw a return to normal, just in time for their senior year.

So, on May 23, the dull gray of the CUTEC’s concrete floor sprang to life with song and radiated vibrant blue, orange, crimson and gold as graduates flooded into the arena for each ceremony—a little over 500 for North and some 700 each for Boyd and MHS. And, that moment for each school felt…triumphant.

There were the traditional speeches with words of wisdom for the days ahead, choir performances, and those final few steps across the stage that mark the transition from high school senior to adult. The school songs were sung one last time, and mortar boards flung into the air before MISD’s 2022 graduates began to file out of the arena to their eagerly awaiting parents and loved ones.

It just never gets old, this day of remembrances and fond farewells and excitement for the future.

Congratulations to the 2022 graduates of McKinney North High School, McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School. Well done!
