Eddins Honor Choir - 2019 TMEA

McKinney, Texas – When they took the stage on Thursday afternoon at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio to perform as a 2019 Texas Music Educators Association Invited Choir, it marked the third time that a group from Eddins Elementary had earned the distinction.

Selected by audition, the Eddins Elementary Honor Choir was one of only three elementary choirs from across the state chosen to perform at this year’s TMEA state conference. That’s a remarkable achievement in a state where the musical landscape is thick with fantastically talented student musicians.

But, to have accomplished the feat three times (2011, 2015 and 2019) in eight years is rather unheard of—and a testament to the talent of Director Melissa Ringel, who also earned elementary choir invitations to the TMEA conference in 2006 and 2009 while teaching in another district.

For some of Ringel’s former Eddins choir students who have continued their musical pursuits in the band and orchestra programs at McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School, the performance offered a chance to return to the TMEA stage once more—this time to accompany the current Eddins students who are carrying on the school’s legacy of excellence in fine arts.
