Student Teaching & Observing
McKinney ISD welcomes student teachers and observers during the fall and spring semesters. Requests for placement must be made by a university or certification program. Placement availability is limited, therefore, we ask that placement requests adhere to the deadline posted. Requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis until the semester limit is reached.
All student teacher and student observer requests are handled through Human Resources. Student teachers or representatives should not contact teachers or principals directly. Student Teaching
The deadline for requesting Fall 2022 student teaching assignments is April 8, 2023. All student teachers must attend MISD’s Student Teacher Orientation on August 28, 2023, from 9:00-10:00 at #1 Duvall Street McKinney, Texas 75069.
The deadline for requesting Spring 2023 student teaching assignments is November 6, 2023. All student teachers must attend MISD’s Student Teacher Orientation on January 22, 2023, from 9:00-10:00 at #1 Duvall Street McKinney, Texas 75069.
Process for Applying for Student Teaching
To apply to be a student teacher, complete a volunteer application using the online application system. After you begin the application process, select “Student Teacher” as the position reference.

Placement Requirements
1. Student-teacher requests must be made in writing by the university or certification program. Send all requests to Wendy Dutton at [email protected].
- Description of the assignment
- Certification being sought
- Preferences for campus and/or the grade level
- Assignment starting and ending dates
- Total hours required
2. Complete a volunteer application for the district.
Classroom and Clinical Observation
The deadline for requesting Fall 2022 observation hours is August 25, 2023. Fall placements will be finalized by September 8, 2023, to begin observations by September 11. 2023.
The deadline for requesting Spring 2023 observation hours is January 19, 2023. Spring placements will be finalized by February 2, 2023, to begin observations by February 5, 2023.
Placement Requirements
Student observers are individuals looking to observe in our classrooms to meet state or university requirements before teacher certification. Candidates wishing to observe must be screened and approved through HR.
Process for Applying for Classroom and Clinical Observation
To apply to observe in McKinney ISD, please complete the following:

- HR will follow up with an email with your clinical observation details.
