Bus Transportation Safety Procedures (COVID)

McKinney ISD will be taking necessary steps to ensure that both bus driver and student health is the top priority when transporting students to and from schools. We have added new bus cleaning protocols in between routes and will be requiring masks for all riders. Please note that social distancing is not possible on buses due to the volume of riders, and parents with significant concerns about social distancing may want to consider other transportation options. Please take time to review the following details regarding McKinney ISD bus transportation services for the 2020-2021 school year.

Safety Starts at the Bus Yard

  • All drivers and monitors are temp checked and wellness screened upon arrival
  • Staff is not permitted to congregate inside the transportation building
  • Social distancing is required when picking up keys and route packages

Staff on the Buses

  • Drivers and monitors are provided masks each day
  • Monitors must wear masks at all times aboard the buses
  • Drivers are permitted to lower their mask only while driving due to possible visibility issues; but must wear them while students load and unload the bus
  • First row behind the driver should always be kept empty

  • Should socially distance at bus stops and when loading from MISD campuses
  • Load buses back to front and Unload from front to back whenever possible
  • Students must consider masks as essential dress code items
  • Failure to keep a mask on while riding the bus or failure to have a mask upon arrival will result in additional parent communication and possible suspension of services

  • Each bus will be fully sanitized with professional EPA approved cleaning products in between routes
