On This Page

McKinney ISD is currently seeking its next superintendent of schools. This webpage includes information and resources specific to the search process. All members of the MISD community, including students, employees, parents, residents and community partners, are invited to participate in the search process by providing feedback through a variety of opportunities.

This feedback will be used to create a profile that will ensure the district identifies candidates whose characteristics most closely align with those sought out by our community.

The Board’s goal is to approve an employment contract and introduce McKinney ISD’s next superintendent by late March 2023.

Letter From Board President, Amy Dankel

Hello, McKinney ISD.

As you may have already heard, Dr. Rick McDaniel, our superintendent for the past 8 years has announced his retirement, and he will conclude a 35-year career in public education at the end of this school year.

As president of the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees, I’m excited to share the next steps in our search for McKinney ISD’s new superintendent.

Our school board will obtain an outside firm in the next week to assist with the process, and during the months of December and January, the search firm will facilitate a variety of opportunities for community and stakeholder input on the characteristics they would like to see in the new superintendent. These opportunities will include a series of focus groups, community meetings and surveys.

This input will provide the search firm and our Board of Trustees with valuable information that will ensure that we identify candidates whose characteristics most closely align with those sought out by our community and parents.

In late January and February, we will narrow the applicant field and schedule interviews. Following the initial interviews, we will select finalists for a second round of interviews that will take place in mid-February, and our goal is to have a final candidate identified and announced by February 20, 2023.

In Texas, the final candidate is known as a lone finalist, and state law requires that 21 days must elapse following the announcement before the new leader can be formally hired. After that 21-day waiting period, our goal is to approve an employment contract and introduce McKinney ISD’s next superintendent in late March.

McKinney ISD is an exceptional school district, and we anticipate interest from many qualified and experienced candidates. We are confident that through this process, we will be able to identify a great leader for the district.

Please visit this superintendent search page regularly to stay updated on the process and to provide feedback as we build our superintendent profile. We appreciate your ongoing support of McKinney ISD and public education, and we look forward to continuing a legacy of excellence in our district.

Sincerely,

Amy Dankel
President
McKinney ISD Board of Trustees
