Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

House Bill 3 (HB 3) represents the new school finance bill that was passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019. As part of this new legislation, funding formulas now include a reimbursement to districts to offer one free college preparation exam per student before he or she graduates in efforts to improve college, career, and/or military readiness.

On March 3, 2021, all MISD 11th graders will be administered at no cost the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT, during their normal school day. The SAT is an assessment managed by the College Board that has been used as a college admissions test for nearly a century. The SAT measures literacy and writing skills and assesses how well a student analyzes and solves problems.

Students who wish to take the optional Essay component of the SAT may do so but will need to prepay in advance. The cost for the Essay is $15 and payments can be made online by selecting this link. The deadline for all payments is December 18, 2020. As a reminder, 11th graders will only need to make payment if they elect to add the optional Essay component; McKinney ISD will pay the entire cost for those students taking the core SAT sections of reading, writing and language, and math.
