Special Olympics
The McKinney Mavericks are the McKinney ISD’s Special Olympics Team. The McKinney ISD Special Olympics team was formed in 1979 and provides sport opportunities throughout the school year to athletes meeting eligibility requirements. Sports currently offered with McKinney ISD Special Olympics include bowling, bocce, basketball individual skills, basketball teams, soccer teams, and track and field.

McKinney ISD has hired Dr. Michael Winters to serve as the MISD senior director of administrative services. He comes to the district from Vicksburg, Mississippi where he has most recently served as associate superintendent for the Vicksburg Warren Independent School District.

2023 Board Election
Elections for board seats are conducted annually each May. The candidates run for specific places on the board (Place 1, Place 2, etc.), but they represent the McKinney ISD as a whole. Once elections are finalized the Board elects a president, vice-president and secretary for one-year terms.
