American Indian Education Program

Title VII Indian Education is a federal project designed to provide eligible Indian and Alaska Native students with tutoring, cultural enrichment, and other services designed to meet the “culturally related academic needs” of AI/AN students. For information on programming for 2017-2018, please contact Dr. Stella Uribe Stevens, Director of Student Services.

All Native American students in the McKinney Independent School District

  • will be academically successful;
  • will have access to cultural enrichment activities and opportunities; and
  • will achieve the same challenging state standards as all students.

McKinney Independent School District will assist Native American students and their families in finding school and community resources for academic student success.

Eligibility

  1. A member (as defined by the Indian tribe or band) of an Indian tribe or band, including those Indian tribes or bands terminated since 1940, and those recognized by the State in which the tribe or band reside; -Or-
  2. A descendant in the first or second degree (parent or grandparent) as described above; -Or-
  3. Considered by the Secretary of the Interior to be an Indian for any purpose; -Or-
  4. An Eskimo or Aleut or other Alaska Native; -Or-
  5. A member of an organized Indian group that received a grant under the Indian Education Act of 1988.
