Child Find

McKinney ISD is ready, willing and able to identify and serve all children with disabilities residing within its jurisdiction who are in need of special education and related services.

The term “special education” means specially-designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. The term “child with a disability” means the child must meet eligibility criteria for at least one of the 13 disabilities specifically outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and, as a result of the disability, has a need for specially designed instruction that can only be provided through special education. Parents who suspect that their child may have a disability should contact their child’s teacher or a campus administrator to discuss a referral to the campus RtI team.

The district’s child find duties also extend to students with disabilities who are placed in private schools or home schools by their parents. If the child’s parents or teachers suspect a disability, please contact Maile Israelson at 469-302-6356 or at misraelson@mckinneyisd.net for additional information related to private school referrals.

Proportionate Share

Students who have already been determined as eligible for special education services, and attend a private school within the district’s boundaries, may be eligible for special education or related services through the district’s proportionate share plan.

Each spring McKinney ISD solicits input from parents and private schools regarding the development of the district’s proportionate share plan through its annual consultation meeting.

For more information about the district’s proportionate share plan or the annual consultation meeting please contact Brynne Riley at 469-302-6352 or at brriley@mckinneyisd.net.

Proportionate Share Meeting

The McKinney Independent School District will hold a meeting for private school administrators, parents of students in private schools and parents of students in home school programs. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss possible eligibility for Special Education services for those students who reside in the McKinney Independent School District.  This will also allow a forum to allow input for planning of special education services for eligible services. The meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 18, 2017 at the McKinney Independent School District Greer Annex Administration Building, 510 Heard Street.
