Each was the subject of a McKinney ISD high school musical this year—and the focus of a host of nominations and awards at the 2nd Annual Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) High School Musical Theatre Awards held Tuesday, May 7 at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

McKinney, Texas - Fans of McKinney Boyd High School athletics will note two new faces leading their teams on the soccer field and the basketball court next season. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Meagan Wilson as head coach of the McKinney Boyd High School girls varsity soccer team and Jason Burton as the head coach of the McKinney Boyd High School boys varsity basketball team. Each brings a wealth of successful coaching experience to their new roles.

McKinney, Texas - Ten talented McKinney ISD high school seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), and one McKinney ISD Finalist has earned a National Merit $2500 Scholarship. Additional scholarship awards are expected to be announced later this spring and in early summer.

McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. J.D. Kennedy has chosen Dr. Stella Uribe to serve as the District’s Director of Community Affairs and Educational Grants. The Board of Trustees approved the new director position at their regular board meeting in April. Uribe is a familiar face in McKinney ISD, having served in key leadership positions for several years. She brings 24 years of education experience to her new role.

Rather than bring guests in, Glen Oaks sent their 5th graders out to the District’s high schools to get a first hand look at the wide range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities available to them in McKinney ISD—and the future careers to which they lead.

McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. J.D. Kennedy has selected Gordon Butler to become the new Director of Program Evaluation for McKinney ISD. The new position of Director of Program Evaluation was approved by the Board of Trustees at their monthly board meeting in April. Butler, who currently serves as an assistant principal at McKinney High School, brings more than a decade of education experience to his new position.

McKinney, Texas - With the 83rd Texas Legislature fully immersed in committee hearings and debates concerning all things public education, the flood of Texas middle school students that arrived at the Capitol in March for the 2013 Junior Youth and Government State Conference couldn’t have done so at a more poignant time.

Among them was a contingent of 85 delegates from Dowell Middle School who performed a number of key roles—including Governor—and brought home top honors for their distinguished work and political savvy.
