Sweet Home Chicago: Faubion Orchestra and Cockrill Band Perform at Midwest International Conference

McKinney, Texas - A little over a year ago, 7th grader Riley Whisenant was tooting out “Hot Cross Buns” on her flute in the 6th grade beginner band at Cockrill Middle School.

Wednesday morning, she’ll be playing decidedly more complex arrangements onstage in Chicago at the prestigious 70th Annual Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference as part of the 74-member Cockrill Middle School Honors Band.

JJAEP Assistant Principal Grace Harris to be new AP at SJMS

McKinney, Texas - The quickly approaching new year will bring new surroundings for Assistant Principal Grace Harris.

Currently serving at the McKinney Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Placement (JJAEP), Harris will join Dr. Mitch Curry, principal, and Assistant Principal David Warren to round out the administrative leadership at Scott Johnson Middle School when school resumes after the holiday break. She’ll fill the position that will be vacated with the December retirement of Dr. Robert Waite, current SJMS assistant principal.

AP Holly Rogers is New Principal of Dowell Middle School

McKinney, Texas - Summer will bring new responsibilities in familiar surroundings for Holly Rogers as she settles into her new role as principal of Dowell Middle School.

Rogers, who has served as an assistant principal at Dowell for the past three years, has been chosen to lead the middle school campus of nearly 1,200 students, and the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the decision Tuesday night.

Dowell 7th Grader Honored by Duke TIP for Perfect SAT Math Score

McKinney, Texas - Dowell Middle School student Justin Chan was among 64 seventh graders from across the country who have been named 2015 William and Dorothy C. Bevan Scholars by the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) for earning a perfect score on one or more sections of the ACT or SAT.

Justin aced the math section of the SAT with a perfect score of 800.
