McKinney, Texas - Veteran Slaughter Elementary School Assistant Principal Erika Echegaray has been chosen as the new principal of Finch Elementary. The decision was announced at the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees monthly work study meeting Tuesday night. Echegaray brings eight years of administrative experience to her new role.
McKinney, Texas - “Our Bennett Bears absolutely crushed Oklahoma with our math skills,” said Bennett Elementary Principal Amy Holderman on Friday.
Bennett was chosen as one of five Texas schools to represent the state in the first week of Think Through Math’s (TTM) annual Red River Rumble mathematics competition between Texas and Oklahoma held Nov. 9 – 13. The weeklong event called on 3rd – 5th graders from Bennett and a counterpart school in Oklahoma to complete and pass as many online TTM math lessons as possible over the course of the week.
McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD has chosen current Reuben Johnson Elementary Assistant Principal Michelle Baumann as the new principal of that campus. The position was made available recently when longtime Johnson Principal Suzy Woodard became McKinney ISD’s assistant superintendent for learner support.

McKinney, Texas - Long time McKinney ISD administrator Paige Hanks has announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Hanks has served as principal of Press Elementary for the past two years, but the impact of her leadership has been felt at several campuses across the district since her arrival in 2001.

McKinney, Texas - Like all great pioneers of science, Grant Vollmer and C.J. Wilson are not afraid to tackle hot-button topics—even when their research findings could interfere with their extracurricular aspirations.
For their science fair research project, which they presented at the Elementary Regional Science Fair in Garland on Feb. 6–7, the two fifth-graders from Wilmeth Elementary, tackled the topic of helmet safety with a project called “Protect Your Melon.” In the process, they won a 1st Place trophy and experienced the exciting convergence of science, helmet safety and the thrill of dropping watermelons from a ladder.
