Dallas, Texas – The American Diabetes Association announced that Dr. J.D. Kennedy, McKinney ISD Superintendent, was named a member of the Community Leadership Board (CLB) for the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the American Diabetes Association for a two-year term.

The national award was given to McKinney to recognize its outstanding and innovative work in addressing the high school dropout crisis and for its programs and services that make it an outstanding place for youth to live, learn and grow.

McKinney, Texas - Working their way slowly along a narrow dirt trail at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, the small group of McKinney ISD students scans the path for possible clues. They stop briefly as tire tracks are examined and measured, and then press forward once more through the sticky, early morning humidity. Cutting across open fields and winding through the cooling shade of overhanging limbs, the investigators arrive finally at their grim destination.

McKinney, Texas - In April, the McKinney Public Library invited all 6-12th grade public, private and home schooled students to participate in the library’s annual Teen Poetry Contest. Entrants could write about any subject in any style and were limited only in length, format and the bounds of their creativity.

McKINNEY, TEXAS (Jan. 17, 2012) – If you made a resolution to get fit this year, McKinney has a new program to help you reach your goals. The Live Healthy Texas 100 Day Challenge provides an online platform for residents to form teams and track physical activity, weight loss, or both from Jan. 23 through May 1. The program also provides meal plans, video workouts, healthy recipes and nutrition and wellness resources. Live Healthy Texas $20 fee for each participant includes a year-long subscription to a national lifestyle magazine and a t-shirt. Registration is open at www.livehealthytexas.org and will remain open through Feb. 6.

McKINNEY, TEXAS (July 21, 2010) – This week McKinney City Council approved an
ordinance to ban the sale and possession of a substance called K2. An approved
amendment to the current smoking ordinance immediately makes the sale, delivery,
offer, gift or possession of the restricted substance a misdemeanor punishable by fine.
