AP Holly Rogers is New Principal of Dowell Middle School

McKinney, Texas - Summer will bring new responsibilities in familiar surroundings for Holly Rogers as she settles into her new role as principal of Dowell Middle School.

Rogers, who has served as an assistant principal at Dowell for the past three years, has been chosen to lead the middle school campus of nearly 1,200 students, and the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the decision Tuesday night.

MISD Offers Summer PSAT Prep for Rising Sophomores and Juniors

McKinney, Texas - In June, McKinney ISD is offering the 2016 installment of its annual MISD PSAT Rising Junior and Rising Sophomores Preparation Program for MISD students who will be juniors or sophomores in 2016–2017. The program is aimed at helping these students reach even higher achievement on the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT that will be administered by the district in October.

The summer prep classes will focus on strategies and skills in critical reading, math problem solving and writing.

AP Jae Gaskill Named New Principal of McKinney North High School

McKinney, Texas - Longtime North Associate Principal Jae Gaskill has been chosen to lead McKinney ISD’s second oldest high school. The decision follows current Principal Jimmy Spann’s recently announced plan to retire at the end of 2015-2016. Gaskill has worked alongside Spann throughout her nine years at the campus, and now her leadership will carry North forward.

MHS Counselor Jennifer Akins Named New MISD Director of Guidance and Counseling

McKinney, Texas - Jennifer Akins leads a busy life at McKinney High School. As lead counselor of the district’s second largest campus, she shares duties with four other counselors and is responsible for the broad range of needs of more than 500 students.

The job can be tough at times, but it’s a calling that Akins is passionate about, and she is really good at what she does. Now she has an opportunity to impact the lives of even more students.

After 10 years in the MHS counseling department, Akins has been chosen as McKinney ISD’s new director of guidance and counseling, a position vacated earlier this year when previous director P.J. Holland announced her retirement in December.

McKinney Boyd High School senior Emma Rappold was among some 1,000 distinguished high school seniors who have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 200 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.
