MISD Hires New Assistant Superintendent and Chief Human Resources Officer

McKinney, Texas - The new year brings a new face to a top McKinney ISD administrative position. The district has hired Tamira Griffin as its new assistant superintendent and chief human resources officer. Griffin is a top-notch administrator who has spent the last 14 years as chief human resources officer for Plano ISD. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the decision to bring Griffin aboard at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.

Gilliam Chosen to Lead Malvern Elementary

McKinney, Texas - Veteran Glen Oaks Elementary principal Rhonda Gilliam will begin a new chapter in her service to McKinney ISD later this month when she steps into her new role as principal of Malvern Elementary.

Rick McDaniel named Lone Finalist for Superintendent of McKinney ISD

McKinney, Texas - Rick McDaniel, former principal of McKinney Boyd High School and current Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, has been chosen as the lone finalist for Superintendent of McKinney ISD by the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees. The decision was approved at the Board’s regular Work Study meeting Tuesday night.
The Board launched its search for a new superintendent in September when Dr. J.D. Kennedy, who has served as superintendent for the past five years, announced his plan to retire at the end of December. After considering a number of candidates, the Board found Kennedy’s successor among the leadership already in place in McKinney ISD.

Dr. Amber Epperson Named Principal of Cockrill Middle School

McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD is pleased to announce that Dr. Amber Epperson has been chosen as the new principal of Cockrill Middle School. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the decision at their regular monthly Board Meeting Tuesday night. Epperson, who currently serves as principal of Malvern Elementary, is a seasoned administrator who has been called upon to lead several campuses during her 11 years of service in the District.

MISD Partner Raytheon Receives 2014 Employer for Education Excellence Gold Award from SBOE

McKinney, Texas - The State Board of Education (SBOE) recently named Raytheon among 10 Texas businesses chosen as 2014 “Employers for Education Excellence” (EEE) in recognition of their ongoing support and commitment to Texas public schools. Raytheon earned Gold recognition, the highest honor awarded in the EEE program for its role as a long-time partner of McKinney ISD.

MNHS Retains AVID National Demonstration School Status

McKinney, Texas -  Officials from AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) headquarters in San Diego visited McKinney North High School on Wednesday, October 8 as part of the school’s scheduled AVID Demonstration School “revalidation” process. After a day of observation, interviews and evaluation, McKinney North High School received the news that they had earned the honor of serving as an AVID Demonstration School for another three years—the highest possible revalidation status.

McKinney ISD Students Named to Congressman Sam Johnson's Congressional Youth Advisory Council

McKinney, Texas - U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (TX-03) recently announced the names of seven McKinney ISD high school students who have been selected to participate in the 2014-2015 Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC). Eighty-one council members were chosen from across the Third District of Texas, which encompasses most of Collin County, by a community board that considered students’ leadership skills, academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities and community service.
