Separation from Employment

In order to separate from McKinney ISD, you must submit a letter of resignation to your principal or supervisor. The letter must be dated and include the effective date of your separation, your signature, and the signature of your principal or supervisor. Your separation letter should also list your reason for leaving McKinney ISD.

If you are retiring through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), please contact them directly regarding the TRS requirements for retirement. You may access their website via trs.state.tx.us or call 1-800-223-8778. Please note that your separation is processed through MISD, but your retirement is processed through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). TRS requires that specific questions related to your retirement be addressed by TRS.

Additional Information about the Separation Process:

  • Employee ID Badge – Turn in your employee ID badge and all other District owned materials. If District owned materials are not returned to your principal or supervisor by your last day of employment, your last paycheck must be picked up by you at the Administration building, #1 Duvall Street, McKinney, TX 75069. You will be required to return all District owned materials at that time.
  • District Devices – All iOS devices supplied to you by the district must be returned to your principal or supervisor with all District owned accessories. You must erase/wipe District issued devices and login to iCloud to release devices from your personal Apple ID. Contact the Help Desk with questions about this process at support@mckinneyisd.net or 469-302-4048.
  • Employee Self Serviceess.mckinneyisd.net You may view your personal information and payroll records. If you need to update your home address and home phone number, it may be done via this link. After your last day of employment, you no longer have access to this information.
  • Employee Drive – Save any personal documents from your Google Drive and network “H” drive to a personal flash drive for future use. Please do not delete district files. After your last day of employment, you no longer have access to this information.
  • Service Records – To request your service records, complete and submit the Request for Credentials form.
  • Retirement through TRS – If you are retiring through TRS, you will receive a Notice of Final Deposit Before Retirement. This is also referred to as the TRS 7 form. It will be sent directly to you from TRS after you have requested retirement information. The TRS 7 form must be submitted to Sheron Tadlock, MISD Payroll Manager, for completion and submission to TRS. Contact Payroll at payroll@mckinneyisd.net or call 469-302-4033 if you have questions.
  • TRS Refund – If you are interested in requesting a refund of your TRS member contribution, you may download the TRS 6 form. The form must be signed and notarized and submitted/mailed directly by you to TRS in Austin. Please note: This is not a requirement when you separate from employment; however, it is an option.
  • Donation of Leave – An employee who resigns from the District and retires through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) shall be permitted to contribute up to five unused local leave days to the sick leave bank upon separation. The employee need not be a member of the sick leave bank to make such a voluntary contribution. Leave contributions made upon separation for the purpose of retirement shall be included in the general balance of leave days in the sick leave bank; the retiree shall not be permitted to designate the recipient of the leave days contributed.
  • Benefits – If you have any questions regarding insurance coverage (including COBRA), your 401(a), 403(b) or 457 plans, contact Benefits at benefits@mckinneyisd.net or call 469-302-4029.
  • Paycheck – If you have questions regarding your last paycheck, contact Payroll at payroll@mckinneyisd.net.
  • Exit Survey – Your thoughts and opinions regarding your time with the District are very important to us as we constantly strive to improve McKinney ISD. After your resignation has been accepted, you will receive an exit survey for completion. The exit survey will be sent to you electronically from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you completing the survey.

After your last day of employment with McKinney ISD, you will no longer have access to:

  • Employee Self Service – Any changes to your personal information after your employment ends will require contacting Payroll at payroll@mckinneyisd.net or 469-302-4033.
  • Employee Portal – For questions regarding service records or to request your service records, contact Human Resources at hr@mckinneyisd.net or 469-302-4117
