Transfer
Guidelines for Children of MISD EMPLOYEES
McKinney ISD is
committed to providing to employees added benefits that may increase the
appeal of working for our district. Below are the updated guidelines
regarding the attendance of students of staff.
-
Children of MISD
employees are eligible
to attend any McKinney ISD school, regardless of the residence of the
MISD employee. Employees must be full-time MISD employees or work more
than 20 hours per week. Substitutes are not eligible.
-
All transfers are
based on availability of space and are considered on a year-by-year
basis.
-
A written
application must be provided to the Superintendent or his designee,
and approval must be granted prior to registration.
-
MISD does not
provide bus transportation to any transfer students.
-
If employment ends
for an employee living within MISD with a student attending school
outside of his/her attendance zone, the student can stay at that
campus until the end of the school year if space is available.
-
The children of
MISD employees living outside MISD boundaries are also eligible to
attend any McKinney ISD school.
-
Professional
certified staff will be exempt from paying out-of-district tuition for
their children. All other staff members will be required to pay half
of the regular tuition.
-
If employment with
MISD ends for an employee living outside MISD, the child of the former
employee may continue attending school within MISD at a school with
space available until the end of that school year, as long as the
former employee pays tuition and there is no interruption in
attendance. The tuition costs would be pro-rated based on the
employee’s last day of work for MISD.
-
Once a student
starts high school, he or she will be encouraged to graduate from that
high school, unless employment of his/her parent with the district
ends and/or the employee moves outside of MISD.
-
Questions
regarding the impact of transfers on U.I.L.-governed activities can be
directed to Rusty Dowling, athletic director.
-
All other transfer
questions can be directed to Diana Gulotta, special assistant to the
superintendent for communications, at 469-742-4133.
Out-of-District Transfer Students
(students whose parents live outside
the MISD Boundaries and do not work for MISD)
·
No new transfer
students (other than Melissa ISD contract for students in 11-12 grades)
Melissa ISD students will attend MNHS.
·
PRE-APPROVED
out-of-district students enrolled in McKinney ISD during the 2001-02
school year can continue their enrollment in MISD as long as there is no
interruption in their enrollment and space is available. MISD can require
movement to a different campus within MISD. Siblings not currently
enrolled in MISD will not be eligible for a transfer to MISD.
·
Out-of-District
students will pay tuition.
·
Current students
who move out of the district must leave the district the day they move
outside of McKinney ISD. All MISD transfer requests must be made in
writing to the superintendent or designee. All MISD transfers will be
based on space available and approval of the superintendent or his
designee. All transfers will be considered on a year-by-year basis. NO
transportation is provided.
High School Level Programmatic Transfers
Students are eligible for
a programmatic transfer between high schools if an academic program is
not available at the attendance zone school. Examples include
cosmetology and building trades vocations.
In-District Hardship Transfer Requests
-
All MISD
in-district hardship transfer requests will be made in writing to the
superintendent or his designee.
-
The
superintendent or his designee will decide all transfer requests on a
case-by-case basis. The district will consider health issues and legal
issues that are verifiable and documented and can be resolved by a
transfer. Transfers for siblings of students who are placed in
self-contained special education units that are not located on every
campus will be considered for a hardship intra-district transfer.
Students who are held-back and asked to repeat a grade may also
qualify for a hardship transfer.
HOW
to make a transfer request
-
Write a letter
that outlines the type of transfer request desired. Include the
child’s name and grade level, current attendance zone and home
address, contact phone number, school you would like your child to
attend and reasons. Include medical and/or legal documentation for
hardship transfers.
-
Include a
non-refundable $10 transfer processing fee. Mail to Diana Gulotta,
MISD, #1 Duvall Street, McKinney, TX 75069.
-
Employees may
request the appropriate form from the Communications Office.
