SPECIAL SERVICES

At-Risk

McKinney ISD expects that each student who enters school will graduate from High School and be academically and vocationally prepared to compete in the real world. When a student is struggling academically or participates in behaviors that might keep him/her from graduating, we become concerned. The State has developed new criteria (Senate Bill 702) for helping us identify these students who are at-risk of dropping out of school. The new criteria went into effect at the beginning of the 2001-2002 school year and will impact the identification of students reported in PEIMS. Senate Bill 702 also includes restrictions on the use of local criteria and requires the collection of data showing the overall performance of students at-risk of dropping out of school.

Once identified, interventions and supplementary services are designed to give the student the extra support he/she may need. Student success is monitored and adjustments are made as needed.
