Substitute Teaching
Pay Scale
The pay rate for a
substitute is based on their highest level of completed education.
-
The pay rate is $80.00
per day for substitutes with a teaching certificate (Texas or
out-of-state), registered nurse license, speech pathologist license
or a cosmetology instructor license.
-
The pay rate is $75.00
per day for substitutes with a bachelor's degree or higher.
-
The pay rate for
substitutes that meet the minimum requirement to substitute (high
school diploma or equivalent) is $65.00 per day.
The daily rate is for an
eight-hour job. The pay rate for a half-day job (four hours)
is half the substitute's daily rate.
If a substitute works 10
consecutive days on one teacher assignment, an additional $15.00 per
day will be added to the daily pay for each day of the assignment.
This will continue until the assignment ends or reaches 20 days.
If the substitute works 20 days in the same teacher assignment, the
additional $15.00 per day will be retro active to the first day of
the assignment. The maximum additional pay per day will be
$15.00. After 20 days on one teacher assignment, the
substitute may miss up to 3 days before the pay rate will revert to
the original pay rate.
For substitutes who work
20 consecutive days in a paraprofessional assignment, on the 21st
day of the long-term assignment $5.00 will be added to the
substitutes daily rate. If the substitute misses a day, the
consecutive day count will start over on the day they return to the
assignment.
Pay Schedule
Substitutes will be paid
twice a month. Paydays will be on the 15th and last day of
each month. Paychecks or statements will be mailed to the
substitute.
-
Substitutes who work
assignments during the 1st through the 15th of the month will be
paid on the last day of the month.
-
Substitutes that work
assignments during the 16th through the last day of the month will
be paid on the 15th of the following month.
-
Substitutes may sign up
for direct deposit. A paycheck statement will still be mailed.
-
If a payday falls on a
Saturday or Sunday, the preceding Friday will be considered the
payday.
-
Only one check may be
sent in November and December due to the Thanksgiving and Winter
Breaks.
