McKinney ISD is dedicated to ensuring an
educational environment that also educates students about health and wellness. In McKinney ISD, coordinated
health and wellness partners include elementary counselors, PE
teachers, nurses, food service workers, classroom teachers and
principals. Community partners include parents and professionals
such as the McKinney Fire Department and health service
professionals.
The district has approved Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum
resources and programs that include Harcourt Health Textbooks, Risk
Watch, Protecting You Protecting Me (PYPM), Coordinated Approach to
Child Health (CATCH), Bully Prevention, Discovery Education and We
Help Ourselves (WHO).
Per the Texas Education Agency's requirement to provide effective
programs (Texas Administrative Code (TAC) ยง102.1031), each program
is designed to coordinate Health education, Physical education,
Nutrition services and Parental involvement.
The McKinney ISD health and wellness plan will be coordinated in
elementary, middle and junior high schools during the 07-08 school
year. Counselors will lead the campus Coordinated
Health and Wellness Team at their school. These teams will guide and
support all Coordinated Health partners with implementation of the
Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum.
The Coordinated Health and Wellness
Outline that details the responsibilities of and resources for the
coordinated health partners is available to faculty and staff in the
Health folder on the shared drive. Access to information regarding
the districts Coordinated Health and Wellness Plan will be available
to all community members on the McKinney ISD website.
All Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum must be approved by
the district School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). For more
information, contact Julie Blankenship, Health Services Coordinator,
jblankenship@mckinneyisd.net.
This plan also meets the requirements of
several other state, federal and local health/wellness policies
including: No Child Left Behind Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools,
USDA Federal Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004,
McKinney Board Policy FFA (Local) Student Welfare: Wellness and
Health Services, S.B. 19, Health TEKS, Coordinated Health Program,
